On Tuesday, YouTube began offering the "Call-to-Action Overlay," a new advertising element in its videos. For the first time, a user can include a pop-up link to an external site within the video screen. The option is only available to paying YouTube advertisers, though there is no additional cost for the overlay. Before its release, the feature was tested -- and well-received -- by nonprofits and politicians, who are expected to be among the primary beneficiaries of the technology.
